Dry Stone Walling
Andrew is a master dry stone waller and can undertake any dry stone walling project from a traditional dry stone boundary to complex dry stone features and structures from pillars, gateways and arches to more ambitious projects. Andrew will work alongside the client or designer to implement their ideas, this can range from advising on specifications, quantities of materials etc to producing complete designs.
Dry Stone Sculpture
Andrew has a vast catalogue of sculptural designs that he has developed over the years, including 3-dimensional forms, reliefs and panels which have been showcased at Chelsea Flower Show and can be found in many private and public gardens throughout the country. Andrew can design bespoke pieces to suit any situation using traditional dry stone walling techniques.
Andrew has worked on many restoration projects over the years for various clients including The National Trust, The Lake District National Park Authority and English Nature. Andrew’s experience in working alongside archeologists and conservation bodies in conserving valuable heritage sites, ensures he employs a sympathetic approach to preserving the integrity of the original structure.
Andrew has worked with a number of renowned artists and designers worldwide to help realise their artistic vision, these include Andy Goldsworthy, Bob Verschueren and Ben Kelly. The pieces have appeared in prestigious locations including The Royal Academy of Art, The South Bank Centre,The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Des Moines Art Centre USA and The Erasmus House in Belgium.
Training and Education
Andrew is a Dry Stone Walling Association instructor and examiner and has run courses throughout the UK and in America and Canada for both private individuals, colleges and conservation bodies. Andrew has also run corporate and team building events all of which promote the craft of dry stone walling. Andrew has recently been involved in two european projects to promote dry stone walling courses and certification. Andrew is also heavily involved in setting up certification and training programmes in North America.
Andrew is available for all types of consultancy work involving dry stone walling. He can undertake inspections of stonework and advise on the quality of the workmanship and provide reports as necessary. Andrew can also advise architects, designers and engineers on specifications for dry stone work, including quantities and sourcing suitable material.
Talks and Lectures
Andrew is available to present talks and lectures on many varied aspects of dry stone walling. Previous presentations have been made at Myerscough College, Leeds Metropolitan University and a number of local interest groups and international dry stone walling events.
